eek! new projector needed badly...

Postby mikeyp » Sun Mar 19, 2006 5:14 pm

eek, after 2 1/2 years of faithful service, our Sony VPL-CS7 projector died...

It was halfway through unfolding in the way it does when you turn it on (being all automated) and just died there and then. Wouldn't turn on or anything. Checked the fuse, lead and mains supply.

It's now at the Sony repair centre, but I'm not sure how expensive it will be to repair. I suspect it may be terminal...

In which case what is the best supplier of church projectors?

My company have about 30 units of low end BenQ (1000 Lumen) and we find that it is not very reliable.

In one church, they are using a Panasonic unit. It seems to be quite good.

We are using Hitachi in the church. It is also quite good and I know that our company is using Hitachi projector for heavy duty use, ie, switch on for 8 hours a day every working day. They seem to last.

To prevent "sudden death", the only way is to have a spare unit ever ready somewhere. Otherwise, Murphy's Law applies. Whatever I say above may not be helpful because we just can't tell when the projector may die. My recommendation is to start saving for a spare unit the moment you have your first projector. Next, the PC may also die. This happen to us also because our PC is on a trolley and being pushed every Tuesday & Sunday over bumpy floor - groove of tiles.

God bless,
William

we can't afford a spare projector - there's always better things to spend the money on...

Turns out a couple of transistors had blown... but was worth repairing.

Stiill horrendously expensive though...

Glad you have it fixed.
If you want to purchase something in future, you can try this website:
http://keen2c.co.uk/ (I should mention this is run by a church member!)

The projector we have is
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products ... _uid=98457

Although if buying now, we might consider this:
