Written by and music written by in seperate boxes

Postby robertev » Sun Nov 16, 2008 4:30 pm

I have had a comment made by someone in my church that in many cases the music for a song is written by a different person to the person who writes the lyrics. Would it be possible to have two boxes or to have the existing box just for the Author?

I was just about to post my own version of this comment when I saw this one!

I know the old answer to this question - if you read the ZW help file it contains a link to the CCLI website stating what the required text is on all reproductions of songs that are made. I know this is the answer to the question, as I and others have asked the question before (http://www.zionworx.org.uk/forum_3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=763&p=3384&hilit=copyright#p3384 and http://www.zionworx.org.uk/forum_3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=243&hilit=copyright).

The problem is that the link in the help file is now out of date. The most recent document from CCLI that I received says "Under the lyrics of each song reproduced, you must include: [author], © [year, owner] [your licence number]" - see http://www.ccli.co.uk/licences/churches_reproducing-song-words.cfm. Therefore, as "Words and Music" is technically incorrect for lots of songs - and we are not reproducing the music in Zionworx, nor might the church have a licence for the reproduction of the music, Zionworx should change to read the current CCLI wording.

Hi Brainer,

Thanks for your research and this update...
That begs the question then what information should go in the [author] field?

Any suggestions for an updated format than can work retrospectively with the information already in the song database?

Cheers,
Christian.

The author field on everything I have is always the words author and never (unless it is the same person) the song author. All my songs come from text file imports from song words books, so the only info I ever have is the words author.

So for me it would work just with a text message change on the screen.

Therefore an option might be to allow the installer/operator to decide the wording of the text - maybe to give a few suggestions (though that has language implications) or allow for free text to set what it says (with a link to CCLI to show what it should say). Then non-English users of ZW can enter something suitable (or you get from your translators the correct text and update the lanaguage downloads at the same time).
