Relative Paths for PowerPoint Files

Postby brainier » Mon May 08, 2006 9:25 am

When a PPT file is added to the playlist on one computer (say at home) and the playlist saved, when the playlist is loaded onto the computer at church it does not always find the PPT files.

This is because the drive letters might have changed, and is most typically seen with USB Keys.

We have an example discovered last night were the playlist was set up on a home PC by a non-techy user and the USB Key was drive G. At church the USB key was F:, but the playlist and PPT files were still in the same location relative to each other (PPT was in a subfolder of the folder containing the playlist).

A wish for Zionworx is that this information was stored relatively in the playlist if the file and the playlist are on the same disk.

For example, rather than F:\folder\file.PPT in the playlist, if the playlist was saved as F:\playlist.xml then the PPT file would be "folder\file.PPT" etc.

Thanks

This is a very good idea Brian - I'm adding it to our Issues Tracker list...

Thanks,
Christian.
