The max. lenght of a RS232 cable is 15feet. So you should have your computer and projector within that distance or it might not work.

Okay; 15 feet is not the limit. We have a run of 50' and no ill side-effects.

I wrote a little program that you can all use, but the protocol's set specifically for the Dell 3300MP (which we have at church). It works well and has some limited Hotkey functionality. Though it's pretty basic, keep in mind, it's free for the present time.

Thanks Nathan! That program is fantastic! Will soon be in regular use at Greymouth Baptist Church (New Zealand)
Any chance of adding a couple of buttons for different sources, or a drop down list? The problem being that with our 5200MP you press the source button, then it shows the unprofessional Searching screen.
Reccomended to anyone with a Dell projector!
Cheers,
James

This would be a very useful feature - we have just bought a new projector and I was trying to work out exactly how to switch the projector on and off as the projector is not visible from the operators desk - this would solve that just by running an additional data cable!

I would have thought that it should be fairly easy to make any built in control adaptable to suit the vast majority of projector protocols.
