We have done some work on this to get a framework for 'talking' with the SongSelect service and it will be included for a later version of ZionWorx.

If you can link to SongSelect, does that mean that you can retreive the CCLI number for each song. With that info Zionworx could update the CCLI database with songs that have been projected based on the used playlist. This is a step that we need to do manually at the end of each service, and as we reach the end of our licencing year (Oct in our case) we find that each song we search for has already been entered (as you only record the fact that you have projected it once in each year).

The final output of the CCLI info for emailing to CCLI is an Excel spreadsheet - so nothing too complex to reproduce.

From what I understand, you only have to report songs that you record during the service...not display lyrics of. Is that not correct?

That's not correct, unfortunately. You have to report any songs you print, photocopy or display electronically during the year.

I think it would be much more important to be able to keep a records of songs projected for CCLI purposes.

It is important to note that it should not be necessary to have a SongSelect Online license to record the songs projected - the license that enables lyrics to be downloaded, is (if I remember correctly) an additional paid for option on top of the normal CCLI license fee.

So pretty much all Zionworx users in UK and US will need to record details of songs projected if they are to comply with the notification requirements of the CCLI license that enables such songs to be projected in church services. If they aren't currently doing that they are quite likely to be breaking copyright law.

A much smaller number of users will need to download lyrics.

That's it exactly - I found Song Select to be a waste of time and money. It is not a brilliant bit of software, and awkward to use. You can get the text for lyrics with most music books and the internet is a good source of lyrics too (though publishing them is probably illegal, not sure using them is if you have a CCLI licence).

A way to record projected songs, and to generate the report back to CCLI would be much more useful than importing songs from a program that you have to pay for, when one probably has the songs already.

I agree your comments from a lyrical point of view - particularly the ordering of the verses/choruses is somewhat unusual. We do make use of the additional feature where you can print off chords and lead sheets though and this is more helpful then having to go out and buy song books for introducing new music.

CCLI covers projecting song lyrics regardless of source even if you copy them off the internet. As long as CCLI get the details of the copyright for payment purposes they're happy.
