Using VLC for Text Over Video....

I'm having the same problem now getting VLC to display in an overlay mode.

VLC is version 0.9, and the normal setup steps (reset, DirectX, monitor 2, overlay etc) applied via the advanced control panel.
Tried creating simply a box in graphics proggy with 0,0,1 colours - VLC does not overlay on this box.
I updated my graphics card driver, too.

So, strictly it's not a ZW problem, but still wonder if anyone has any bright ideas?

What's the model of the PC and the graphics card - someone might have more of an idea with that info.

The PC is homebuilt...
Graphics is NVidia Geforce 6200, with extended desktop controlled by Windows XP Pro.
Other specs: Pentium 4 3.20GHz ; 1GB Ram ; 500GB HDD

VLC 0.9.9 settings are located in a different manner compared with the instructions for the earlier versions at the start of this thread. So for those using 0.9.9, this is how to do the settings to match:-

1. Edit the shortcut to VLC so that there are no options after vlc.exe
2. Reset VLC's preferences (Tools > Preferences) and then restart VLC
3. (Tools > Preferences)
(a) Select "Show settings" = All
(b) Click arrow alongside "Video", and alongside "Output modules"
4. Under Video -
(a) Tick "Fullscreen video output"
(b) Untick "Embedded video"
(c) Untick "Show media title on video"
5. Under Video > Output Modules
(a) Set "Video output Module" to "DirectX video output" (caution - NOT DirectX 3D video output)
6. Under Video > Output Modules > DirectX
(a) Click "Refresh list" for the Name of desired display device
(b) From the drop-down menu select \.\\DISPLAY2
7. Click "Save" and then restart VLC

I notice that 0.9.9 also has bluescreen options (in which the user-defined colour is omitted and the background shows through), but obviously this is different from the idea of VLC rendering only onto the near-black portion defined as 0,0,1.
However... I still don't get the ZW text showing through the video.

Can anyone confirm that these settings work on their system? (ie: that I haven't got a setting wrong here somehow).

I have no problem getting the above to work.

I am running Windows 7 RC though, and that might have an impact - but its on a Dell Precision M65 laptop with an NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M video card running build 7.15.11.7967 of the NVIDIA drivers and not the default Microsoft drivers. The box also has 4GB of RAM of which 512MB of that is reserved for system memory (including display memory) and this is a setting that I cannot change in the BIOS.

Can you confirm that if you look at Display Adapters in Device Manager that the video card is detected properly and that the driver is not the default Microsoft driver?

The bluescreen option is not what is needed here - you need to have very controlled video conditions and very good lighting to be able to film a subject against a bluescreen.

Driver is signed by: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher & is version 6.14.11.7813 dated 17/09/2008

Update - I have got VLC 0.9.9 and Zionworx 2.6.5 successfully working together, as described in my earlier post, on the church PC. But still no joy on my home PC or laptop.
