Having multiple text colors in the same song.

Postby Gabe » Sun Jan 20, 2008 11:31 am

Hey, I was wondering if there's a way to have two colors for different parts of the text. THe reason I want this is because we sometimes have both swedish and english text in the songs.

For example:

<Swedish version of song> I would want this in white

<English version of song> I would want this in yellow.

Is this possible?

What ever style is applied to that song applies to all of it, so you couldn't have different coloured text.

Having said that, one way you could achieve this is by creating your own background picture consisting of alternate coloured stripes using a picture editor. This would take a little trial and error, and would only fit a certain font and point size.

The text has to be the same colour throughout the song. So if you want to have a different colour for Swedish and English, you could create a background with alternate stripes - see here:
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:46q ... -sonsh.gif
The stripes would match the alternate lines of Swedish and English.

Then red here would have English words and the white Swedish ones. Or you could just have the top half in one colour and the bottom in another.
You can use a picture editor to create the colour rectangles and adjust their size, though you need to know which font and point size to work to otherwise the text may not appear on the correct part of the background.

You also need someone who is colour blind to check they can read it!!

Haha, yeah, good idea but I decided to go with the same color for it all. Thanks for all the help though.

:D

Jonathan, the resourcefulness and creativity our our dedicated users never fails to amaze me!
What a cool idea - maybe we don't need to develop the feature properly after all...

BFN,
Christian.

Well, the feature would be very much appreaciated. Especially since having a background like that would be ugly and not suitable. No offence of course.

No offence taken, Gabe...
I was only being sarcastic, though not very witty!

This is a key feature we are working on for the next major release.
We understand the requirement for multi-lingual congregations and this is high on our priority list to work out a neat solution for.

Cheers,
Christian.

Hi Christian et al

Thanks for your continued wonderful work on this project.
As you know this (or an equivalent multiple font option) is something many of us have been eagerly (but I hope patiently) awaiting.
In our case such a feature will allow us to add liturgy using different colours (or fonts) for congregation response. At the moment we do this by using all caps for the responses but the added flexibility of multiple colours and/or fonts would be very welcome.
I assume this will have to take the form of metadata stored with the text in the database and will therefore mean a possible further change to the database structure.

Once again thanks for all the efforts put in by yourself and the team.

God bless,
Paul
