Viewing presentation screen on a single monitor setup

Postby York Pilson » Wed Feb 08, 2006 3:19 pm

I am helping another church set up their presentation equipment and have run into an interesting snag using V. 2.5.05. Their laptop will only support a single monitor, and, as a small and new church, they do not have the money to buy much new equipment. They have a Dell Latitude CPX and are using a Mitsubishi XL8-U projector. We are trying to get the presentation screen to display fullscreen, and when we try F2, we get the dialog box, and when we click on Yes, nothing happens. We still show the whole Zionworx display on both the laptop and the monitor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Have a blessed day!

Sorry, but Zionworx requires two screens to work. You simply cannot see the control panel and so, although you might conceivably get the first song to show, there's no way of getting the remainder onscreen whilst live in a service.

This was what took me away from Zionworx a few years ago - the very same problem with the laptop. We used Worship Assistant, which DOES have the capability of running with a single output and which we used successfully for almost two years. It can also run using dual screen.

We finally changed back to Zionworx (and were delighted with the improvement) when we cobbled together an old desktop and stuck two graphics cards into it (for £25 or so ($45?) you can probably get a reasonable dual output card). We ran with a 500MHz base unit for a year until someone donated some rejected parts and pushed the processor speed a lot higher.

So, for the sake of helping this church, you may be best advising them to locate someone's defunct PC and see whether you can bring it up to scratch for running Zionworx. Alternatively, you'll need something like Worship Assistant http://www.churchassist.com/worshipassistant.html for $69 (£45 ?)

Is the laptop running Windows XP? Have you installed the video drivers from the device manafacturer (rather than the default Microsoft ones)? If so it might work for Dual View (different output on the laptop screen from that output on the external VGA port)

Thanks for your input. The church team goes to different venues to play and wants to take their equipment on the road, but they may be able to dedicate a desktop to the setup in the building.
I will try loading the Mitsubishi drivers and seeing if that helps. If not , I have a plan B. I ran our service using a single output laptop and version 2.0 for several months until we got a better unit. I think we may try running 2.0 if changing drivers does not help.

It is possible to run Zionworx 2.0 on a single monitor, using the keyboard shortcuts to run the playlist etc.

Unfortunately in the change over from v2.0 to v2.5 this functionality has been unintetionally lost, although it is in the bug list and will hopefully be fixed at some point in the near future to allow for the kind of situations you describe, and to allow people to evaluate Zionworx without the need for a dual screen setup. However, ZW is primarily and for the forseeable future will be a program which is primarily designed for a 2 monitor setup!

Hope this helps,

I am glad to know that this is included in the bug list. Zionworx being free will appeal to a lot of groups that are just starting up, and it will help if they can run the program on minimal setups, until they can get something more elaborate. The development team has done a great job and is a blessing to us all. Writing programs is a task that is far beyond my own abilities or inclinations, and I thank you all for the work you have done.

Edd, don't forget to mention that it's USB 2.0
...for those of us with laptop that has single video and USB 1.1, it's still no help :(

Nevermind, the church desktop works fine!
