Displaying blank lines in songs

Postby zbnet » Sat Jan 07, 2006 4:59 pm

I'm trying to add blank lines to some of the songs I have stored in the database - besically because a few of the songs have a very short verse and also a short chorus. It seems silly to put each verse on screen and then replace it with the very short chorus, as there is aple room on the screen for both the verse and the chorus below it - but I would like to include a blank line between the verse and the chorus.

Of course, Zionworx splits the verse and the chorus to 2 different screens, because of the blank line!

I've tried fooling the software by pasting non-break spaces from Word and putting them on the blank line between the verse and the chorus in the database, but the software must clean them out (unhelpfully), as this makes no difference to the split, and when I open the song for editing again it appears to be a blank line seperating the verse and the chorus.

Is there any way to achive this blank line on the display???

The trick is that you need to add the character [Alt]255
Here's the (unbelievably pedantic  ) step-by-step solution:

Go to the end of the line of text
Hit [Enter]
Hold down the [Alt] key and type the numbers 255
Let go of the [Alt] key

You'll end up with:-
Sing sing sing sing sing sing a song.
[Alt]255 ...only this bit is invisible and shows as a blank line
Sing sing sing sing sing sing the next line.

(C) copyright me!

Hope it helps. :D

 yes, but I gained the hint off this forum when someone else mentioned the <Alt>255 character. I too was delighted with it, and can't take any credit for it!

Note that 255 must be typed on the numeric keypad and not from the row of numbers at the top of the keyboard.

This means on laptops you might need to enable the function keys to get at the numbers (as they are typically Function+Letter = Number on Keypad)
