PC Remote Control

Postby frink » Mon Nov 24, 2003 9:06 am

Hiya all,

I have one PC that runs the projector and another at the back that has lighting control, audio applications and which I also want to use to control the
projector PC.

I am thinking of usint either VNC to control the primary screen of the remote
PC or the Windows XP remote assistance app. Problem is that Vmware is
slow and Remote Assist is a pain to use as you have in invite people to assist
you etc.

Does anybody have a better way of doing this? Ideally I would like to use RDP (Remote Desktop) into the remote projector PC..

Thanks folks,
Leigh

If you have Nix experience, you could set the remote projector PC up with Linux and open a terminal application to control it on your PC at the back (since unix has by it's nature seperate client and server architecture). Not sure that this wouldn't be too heavy duty for your needs though.

Umm I have lots of Nix knowhow :) I do not quite understand what you mean though. I'd have Linux running on the projector box with a term (ssh/telnet) to control it. But then how do I run Zionworkx on the Linux box?

Thanks,

 Sorry missunderstanding. Didn't realize you needed Zionworx on the projector box - thought you where just using it for projector control.

Zionworx ported to Linux would be nice, but I havn't seen it yet. Apparently there is a Linux song words app - mentioned in one of the other forums threads. I saw a nice gui based linux client running in windows while surfing - but can't remember where. I had assumed that zionworx was on the local machine and that you where using analogue means of supplying the projector with an image. Windows isn't the best OS for remote control.

Sorry for the confusion.

Well thanks anyway! I guess I'll try it out using both Remote Desktop and
VNC and let you all know how it goes!

There is a faster version (variant) of VNC which uses a tighter packet structure. TightVNC - I find it much better.

VNC works well

Postby frink » Mon Jan 12, 2004 10:53 am

Hiya,

I have TightVNC working very well now thanks. The songmaster logs in either
from his house or the PA desk at the back of the hall to create the list/powerpoint stuff and then the whole thing is run from the back of the building via the network.

If our pastor has a powerpoint presentation or something, then he dumps the
file on the share on the projector PC via the wireless network. This means
no more floppies that get mangled :-)

Thanks Zionworx!
